Nanotechnologies development in Europe between 1998 and 2006
This video show the evolution of scientific publications in the Field of nanotechnology, published between 1998 and 2006, for the main European Clusters. This growth is an indirect marker of the development of nanotechnologies, but IT does not affect all the places in the same way.
The methodology used to identify if a scientific publication is in the Field of nanotechnology is described in the article “Dated search strategy for science and technology emergence: With scalable and evolutionary query for nanotechnology alignment” published in 2007 in Research Policy by A. Mogoutov, B. Kahane. This article is a production of the nanotrendchart project.
The Clusters concentrate 80% of the scientific activity in the Field of nanotechnology. This Field represents more than 500.000 publications between 1998 and 2006. The scientific production is not distributed in a homogeneous way. Several situations can be identified:
Clusters with a very strong growth in Asia, but still not very visible (in number of citations)
Clusters with weaker growth in Europe, which are smaller but strongly inter-connected within the European Union space and visible
Clusters with weaker growth in United States, which are larger and more internationally visible
